In 1961, the Peace Corps provided an opportunity to bring America to the world and bring the world home to America.
Nearly 60 years later, more than 200k volunteers have served in over 60 countries. Americans of all ages serve their country and seek to understand their place in the global community.
A Towering Task is the first feature documentary to chronicle the remarkable history of the agency.
After initial widespread support, the agency struggled to remain relevant as the world changed. With government agency budgets under fire and increased nationalistic tendencies across the globe, today the agency is again answering the question:
What role should Peace Corps play in our world?
This online event is brought to you by the Northern Virginia Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and will be screened from Friday, June 26 at 7pm EDT through Saturday, June 27 at 7pm EDT. A special link to screen the film will be sent to all registrants after you RSVP on this page.
This virtual event is open to the general public. We are accepting donations to offset the cost of the screening fee and any additional proceeds will benefit racial justice nonprofits in Northern Virginia.
