NOVA RPCV Bike Ride on the Mount Vernon Trail

Join NOVA RPCV on Saturday, Oct. 30th 1pm-5pm for a scenic bike ride on the Mount Vernon Trail. We have reversed our trip and will depart from the Waterfront Park in Old Town Alexandria at 1pm. We decided on this starting and meeting point instead since some attending live in Old Town Alexandria and public transportation with a bike is a challenge. We  hope that meeting in Old Town Alexandria will be easier for everyone and then we will also be able to enjoy a happy hour or dinner in Old Town after our bike ride. Since we will do the happy hour/dinner after the ride around 5pm, we suggest everyone eat a snack or lunch before meeting at 1pm as there are limited options on the way. You can also pack your own snack & drink for the ride. 

We will meet and start at the Waterfront Park (next to the water) in Old Town Alexandria. This is a Park on Prince Street  in Old Town Alexandria that has been newly renovated and has some boats and a dock.  After leaving Old Town we will proceed on to Jones Point and then get on the Mount Vernon Trail and bike to Mount Vernon (approximately 10 miles). We may stop along the way at Riverside Park and Belle View. There are beautiful views along the Potomac. The bike trip will be approximately 20 miles round trip on the Mount Vernon Trail. We will bike from Old Town to Mount Vernon and then back again on the Mount Vernon Trail.

All levels of bikers are welcome to join.  Those who do not want to bike the full round trip (20 miles) can consider having someone pick them up in Mount Vernon after 10 miles or you can just turn back earlier at Belle View and shorten the length of the ride. We will take our time and enjoy beautiful views and take breaks along the water and wait for everyone. We will bike at a moderate pace since it is a social event.

This event will continue if it is cloudy and there are rain showers as long as it is not an all day wash out. I also recommend bringing a bike lock so you can lock your bike if you want to stop or join us for a happy hour/dinner at the end of the ride in Old Town Alexandria at around 5:00pm. We will hold the happy hour/dinner at the back patio of Blackwall Hitch after our bike ride. If you just want to join for the dinner/happy hour you are welcome but please do not rsvp to this event for the happy hour.
