NOVA RPCV Summer Gathering & Potluck

Join NOVA RPCV for our Summer Gathering Sunday, August 28th, from 5pm-8pm at the Sterling, VA home of Christine Cipriani Wilson, Ed. D. (Kenya 87-89). This is our quarterly meeting where you can hear updates from the Board on an array of activities.

*We will be selling the new 2023 International Calendars at the meeting.

They are $15 each and can be paid for by cash or check payable to NOVARPCV.
Calendar sales is the major source for raising funds to donate to PCV projects.

We will also have a special program Writing your Peace Corps Story with author Pat Reilly (Liberia 72-75).  Share a story from your Peace Corps experience with us at our Summer Gathering.   For those of you writing your Peace Corps memoirs, we invite you to read part of your work. Limit to 5-7 minutes. Send your 5-7 minute writing excerpt to novarpcv@gmail.com by August 18 if you'd like to share. Poets inspired by their Peace Corps experience are also welcome to share!  Space is limited.  

Pat's work appears in the recently published anthology Never the Same Again: Life, Service & Friendship in Liberia (2022). Pat will share how Friends of Liberia published its anthology with some tips on self-publishing, so you too can get your own Peace Corps memoir published. 

This event will take place in Sterling, VA at the home of Christine Cipriani Wilson, Ed. D. (Kenya 87-89). The address will be provided after you register.

This is a potluck, so please bring food and/or beverages to share.

About our Host Christine Cipriani Wilson, Ed. D. (Kenya 87-89)

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, Massai Mara, 1987-1989.  I was an English teacher.  My project was the building of a library facility, stocked shelves and book donations, and student trained librarians. I’m proud to say I returned to my village, Kilgoris, on my 50th bday, 2015.  True Harambee (community) school became a government school and the library continued to serve students through book loans and study area.  I was thrilled to see that Sosio Secondary had in fact survived the test of time.  Massai students who had attended the school were now certified teachers. Even my house saw an improvement with electricity and running water.
