In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Peace Corps, NOVA has been asked to host a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. The Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 22nd from 3:45-6:00 pm at Arlington National Cemetery. We will commemorate the legacy of the Peace Corps and pay respect to the contributions of President John F. Kennedy.
We will meet outside the Visitor's Center at 3:45 pm on Wednesday, September 22nd. Registered guests are welcome to walk together to President John F. Kennedy's grave site at 4:00 pm. The wreath laying ceremony will take place from 4:00-4:20. We will silently place a wreath and flowers at President John F. Kennedy's grave site.
After the wreath laying ceremony, all attendees are invited to the Women's Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery from 4:30-6:00pm, where we will host a small reception and a few speeches will be given. Various speakers including Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn, NPCA President Glenn Blumhorst, and others will speak about the legacy of the Peace Corps that President John F. Kennedy established. Refreshments and cake will also be served and guests will have the opportunity to visit together at the Women's Memorial.
The Women's Memorial has reserved a space for our group from 4:30-6:00pm. We think that will be more convenient and comfortable for guests attending. It is reminded that while inside the Women's Memorial masks should be worn. Outside the visitor's center and at the grave site it is up to the discretion of visitors whether they would like to wear masks.
